Should We Start a Garden at Home?

So, should we start a home garden? Well, the answer is clearly yes! But it can be more than a little intimidating to some people. It’s a significant investment, and it requires a lot of our time, attention, and care—but this shouldn’t scare you off. There are so many hidden benefits to starting your home garden, and we’re here to convince you to try!

Let’s go over the first question that would probably have popped in your head: why home gardening?

Home gardening is healthy! What if we tell you that gardening is a form of exercise. You can burn as many calories as a 30-minute walk by taking care of your home garden! Home gardening can also make your diet healthier. You will be the mastermind of all the products you use to cultivate your vegetables, which means you can ensure that your products are 100% organic. Doesn’t that sound cool? You don’t need to doubt organic marketing on any of your vegetables since you are the one that’s making it!

Plus, wouldn’t it be refreshing to be able to visit your backyard or your balcony to pick a fresh mint for your garnish? It would be a lot fresher than your refrigerator-stored greens, which can increase your meal quality! Furthermore, you don’t have to worry about your vegetable spoiling in your fridge since you can continue to cultivate it in the soil until you’re ready to use it.

How does home gardening sound so far? Have we convinced you yet? If we haven’t continued reading!

Home gardening can improve your quality of life.

It sounds like a lot, doesn’t it? You may be skeptical about this, but trust us, it’s true.

We mentioned that gardening is healthy since it’s like exercise. Well, gardening can also be a form of therapy. Much like art therapy, gardening allows us to escape from our thoughts or busy life for a minute.

Life can get too much, and sometimes we just need to take a break and distract ourselves. Gardening can help you with this! This form of therapy is known as therapeutic horticulture. It’s believed to have helped multiple people to reduce stress and anxiety, especially city busy-bodies.

You’ve probably heard this a million times, but there are more things to life than you know! By taking a breather once in a while, you would be able to reconnect back to the things that matter to you.

Did we bore you with the previous fact? Well, let us tell you that gardening is sustainable.

Yup, you heard it. Sustainability is one of the hot topics of today’s world. The younger generations are implementing this new lifestyle daily as a part of the environmentalist movement.

Home gardening allows you to cultivate the soil and keep it healthy. Keeping your soil healthy would attract insects, worms, and other small creatures to your garden, which would also keep your soil healthy. You would create your small ecosystem within your home gardens!

Jessica Halim, the co-founder of demibumi, an environmental organization, once shared that she helped revive the Earth around her through her home gardening. She witnessed small insects and vertebrates visit her lawn more often, and that increased her love for nature. She also shared this experience with her daughter, which allows her to teach a younger generation to love and nurture nature. As a result, her hobby has become a fun getaway activity for her family!

You can do this too with your own family or friends! So get together and have fun!

Hopefully, we have convinced you that gardening is fun. But we still have one last point to convince you, and we think this one is pretty cool.

You can help save bees!

You’ve probably heard about the declining rates of bees, which is very alarming, and we should care about it. Bees are essential to our ecosystem. They are one of the most important vectors in wildlife since they help fertilize trees. However, with the increasing rate of urbanization, bees have been in a steep decline. Why? Because bees require flowers, fruits, and trees to survive. With the reduction of available greenery in the cities, bees struggle to collect nectar for the hives.

You will be providing a solution to this issue by starting your home garden! A tip for your gardening, you should plant flowers in between your vegetables to promote healthy soil. With these flowers, you would be providing bees with the nectar they require to survive. Not only with your flowers, any flowering plants (such as fruits) can also promote bees’ wellbeing!

That’s all we have so far. However, we hope we have convinced you to look at home gardening in a different light. Keep up with our blogs to learn more about home gardening!
